Fight Island: Dana White announces a great UFC 249 card

UFC has managed to pull together an amazing card with they had to deal with

COVID-19 has absolutely erased the world of sports it seems. The tipping point of it all was undoubtedly the cancellation of the Tokyo Olympics. The event has even managed to shake up the NFL, which starts in September!

However, the world of sports managed to ‘squeeze one out’. UFC president, Dana White has stated from the beginning of this pandemic, that he will do anything in order to put up a UFC 249 card. Of course, a lot has gone sideways for him, including Khabib’s cancellation (more on that here). In his interview with Brett Okamoto, Dana revealed what the UFC fans wanted to know about the event.

“I’ll tell you this, I’m this close to getting a deal done,” White said. “So, this place where this fight is going to be on 18 April, I have locked up for two months, so I’m going to continue to pump fights out. I also secured an island. I’ve got an island. The infrastructure is being built right now. We’re going to do all of our international fights on this island.”

When asked about health concerns in times of a global pandemics. There will be no live audience at UFC 249 and White did not name the island he plans to use as a venue. “Health and safety is something we worry about all the time, not just during the coronavirus,” White said. “Obviously, this has made our jobs a little tougher, but we’re going to do everything above and beyond to make sure everybody is safe, just we always do. A lot of things will be different.”

The UFC president believes only him and Vince McMahon have been “looking for solutions”, instead of waiting for things to play out themselves. “I’m ready to get back,” White said. “You keep people in their houses for too long without entertainment, people are going to start losing their minds. And we need to start figuring out solutions. That’s what we’re doing. We’re going to keep everyone safe and we’re going to pull this thing off.”

The rumored location, however, is Tachi Palace Resort and Casino in Lemoore, California. This might be the venue for the next four UFC events.
